Arkle Cottage is conveniently located on the edge of Lairg which itself can be found at the southern end of Loch Shin.
In common with most places in the Highlands, Lairg offers all the facilities required. Just a few minutes walk from the cottage is Crofters Restaurant (offering family meals), the Nip Inn (which offers bar meals and a restaurant), an ATM, Post Office, pharmacy, general store and news agents. Also within Lairg are two more general stores, a fish & chip shop and a petrol station.
The Ferrycroft Countryside Centre has interesting exhibitions on the history and wildlife of the area and lots of other tourist information. The centre also has internet facilities.
There are many opportunities for walking and sightseeing around Lairg, but being centrally located in the northern Highlands, Lairg offers easy access to the east, north and west coasts.
